  • Terror threats & the officer's role.

  • Protecting vulnerable people.

2. Principles of Working as a Security Officer:
  • Roles & responsibilities.

  • Access/egress control, physical/electronic systems.

  • Personal safety & patrolling.

  • Drugs awareness, search procedures.

 

3. Application of Conflict Management:
  • Recognising, assessing, & reducing conflict risk.

  • Problem-solving in conflict situations.

4. Communication & Record Keeping:
  • Effective communication skills.

  • Relevant record-keeping.

Key Requirements & Skills
  • First Aid: A current First Aid or EFAW certificate is often a prerequisite.

  • Language: Ability to communicate effectively in written/spoken English.

  • Licence-Linked Qualification: Training leads to an SIA licence for specific roles (Guarding, Door Supervision, CCTV, etc.)

Learning & Assessment
  1. Course Duration: 32 hours over a period of 4 days

  2. Practical Assessments: Covering the use of radio, report writing, searching, and conflict management.

Exam Information

Principles of Working in the Private Security Industry

  • Number of Questions: 72

  • Pass Mark: 70% (50/72)

  • Time Allowed: 1 hour 50 minutes

Principles of Working as a Security Officer

  • Number of Questions: 60

  • Pass Mark: 70% (42/60)

  • Time Allowed: 1 hour 30 minutes

Applications of Conflict Management

  • Number of Questions: 20

  • Pass Mark: 70% (14/20)

  • Time Allowed: 30 minutes
